LATEST NEWS!!! THE UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY has been ranked as one of the world's top 50 universities in the latest survey of global universities.
The Newsweek global top 100 published this month has ranked universities from around the world taking into account openness and diversity, as well as distinction in research.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Gavin Brown said that, although there was no evaluation of quality of teaching or the all-round student experience, the Newsweek rankings were the most realistic of the growing number of global league tables.
In the recently published Shanghai Jiao Tong University's league table of the top 500, which gives special weighting to Nobel Prize winners, the University of Sydney is ranked equal third of the Australian universities in the category 101 to 150.
The Newsweek analysis is based on the number of highly-cited researchers, the number of articles published in nature and Science and the number of articles published in the ISI Social Sciences and Arts and Humanities indices. Newsweek also takes into account the percentage of international faculty, percentage of international students, citations per staff member (using ISI data), the ratio of faculty to students and the size of library holdings.
