Boomerang Australia Studies

INTRODUCTION

"Coo-ee on Tuesdays", it's the Friends & Co Hub @ Boomerang Australia Studies; this is a monthly meeting around a drink in Sydney on the first Tuesday of every month. The objective is to share your experiences, meet Australians, make new friends and discover some new aspects of the Australian culture.

We have chosen a name that may seem weird but it is typically Australian!  "Coo-ee" (pronounce Kou-i) is an Australian rallying cry! This expression comes from the Aboriginal language and is widely used in Australia.  

To make our "Coo-ee on Tuesdays" more interesting and cultural, we determine a specific topic about Australia each month. so that it will help you in your everyday life in Australia.  

WHO CAN JOIN?

Everybody is invited: whatever your nationality, if you are a student or not at Boomerang Australia Studies, ... You just need to be in Sydney and wish to share your experiences and discover the Australian culture!

Feel free to invite your friends, whatever their background and nationality! The main language will be English but every language is welcome as long as there is communication!

CALENDAR

OUR NEXT MEETING WILL BE HELD on Tuesday 2nd February: this time, the topic will be  "Start of school"!

Join us to celebrate the "Start of school" around an Australian bbq!  You could enjoy the sun and meet a lot of nice people!

You just have to bring your meat&drink, we will provide the rest (salads, sauce, some soft drinks...)!!!!

You can come with your friends, everybody is welcome!!

PAST EVENTS

 Tuesday 3rd November: this time, the topic will be the Melbourne Cup! The Melbourne Cup is the most famous sport event in Australia: the whole country stops dead during the Emirates Cup Day race horse and huge sums are at stake! We believe this is important for you to celebrate it and be initiated to the tradition of this great day: you'll have the occasion to bet and you have to dress smartly, just for fun of course! If you are a girl, a hat is the essential accessory!

Be aware that the best dressed will win a bottle of Champagne! The ball is in your court! Please come along with your friends, everybody is welcome!
Dress code: Black tie.

We started our first meeting "Coo-ee on Tuesdays' on the 5th May in Sydney Australia! On that day, the topic was "Beack Culture" and surfing in Australia! Our guest, Ronnie of MOJO SURF was here to answer to every question about surfing in Australian. Congratulation to Stephane B. who was lucky to win a week-end Surf Trip!

Our second meeting was held on Tuesday 2 June at STAR BAR - 600 George St (opposite the George St cinemas) from 6pm ! That time the topic was about the Tax Return, how to claim your tax and superannuation if you have worked between July 08 and June 09 !! We have realised that most of you are lost at the end of the Financial Year, so we invited a tax expert, TAXBACK.COM who explained the procedures and assisted you with your application !  The other good news is that we obtained 2 Beers for the price of 1 vouchers for everyone!
